Winners of mini-grant programme

To support colleagues during challenging wartime, UVMF organized and implemented the “Mini-Grant for Good Deeds” for the veterinary community in Ukraine. They received numerous interesting and important proposals, ranging from acquiring biochemical analyzers to a mobile veterinary clinic.

Experienced veterinary colleagues had the challenging task of selecting the best projects from nearly forty proposals. The priority was for the charitable idea to involve veterinarians, be socially significant, and provide assistance to those who truly need it. Additionally, the grant needed to be implementable within a short time frame, as explained by veterinary doctor and competition jury member Hanna Kondratieva.

Among the winners is veterinary doctor and veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Volodymyr Melnyk, who received a surgical drill for medical operations. This equipment played a crucial role in his recovery after being wounded and brought him back to life. Melnyk also assists stray animals and provides free services to the pets of military personnel, making the decision to support him in this important endeavor.

Poltava State Agrarian University received nearly 30,000 UAH for the purchase of an interactive board, emphasizing UVMF’s commitment to education, especially during wartime.

UVMF also supported the project “Helping the Animals of the Military” and contributed to setting up a facility for rescuing animals in the frontline area of Orlivshchyna. The veterinary clinic underwent repairs, and UVMF, through the terms of the microgrant, purchased equipment for the postoperative care of animals, with the project’s total cost exceeding 50,000 UAH.

The fourth grant aimed to aid horses evacuated from the hottest regions of Ukraine, including Donetsk, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, and even those from destroyed stables near Kyiv. These animals are now in Rivne Oblast, and the microgrant covered the cost of treatment and hygiene procedures for 18 horses.

All these projects were realized by UVMF with financial support from the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF). However, this is just the beginning, as UVMF continues to bring colleagues’ ideas to life. New projects and microgrant competitions will be announced soon.
